Hi Jeannine, thanks for commenting.
I had interviewed Dr. McDonald in regards to his breeding of his world champion Appaloosa mare "Hy N Bright" to "Poco Smokey Dude". He said Smokey Poco Dude was drop dead gorgeous. In addition to a Superior halter career, Smokey Poco Dude was the 1982 AQHA World Champion in Jr. Heading.
Smokey Poco Dude was born in 1978. His breeder was Marvin Copple of Lincoln, Nebraska. His owner was Mike Drennan of Phoenix, Az.

The stallion was shown through March of 1983 earning 109 open halter points and 109 performance points. In 1982, he was 6th place in Aged Stallions at the World show. He was also the reserve World Champion in Jr heading at the same show.
Smokey Poco Dude earned his Superior in halter in 1981, and became an AQHA Champion in 1982.
From there, he produced 219 AQHA foals over 18 foal crops. 97 of his foals were performance foals, earning 1285 open points, and 899.5 halter points. They also earned numerous amateur and youth points.
Of his AQHA foals, he had 5 open AQHA champions.
He had one Reserve World Champion winner.
He had ten ApHC registered foals. 8 of the ten foals were points earners.
I do not have access to APHA records so I do not know how many paint foals he may have sired.

The statistical information comes from AQHA and ApHC records.

I would love to see a picture of your oil painting! Thanks to your comment, I realized my email link on my Home page was not updated and I have fixed it. Please feel free to email if you have more questions.

Does anyone know more about Smokey Poco Dude? We have an oil painting of him painted by HELEN SHERMAN OF Nantucket. Thanks, Jeannine A Rusch
